TicTac Data Recovery’s research team is world-leading in Samsung SSD recovery.

After several months of continuous research on the Samsung 850 EVO Solid State Drive (SSD) model and after collecting several customer cases with this particular SSD, they managed to find a way to read data from this model.

The problem with Samsung SSD recovery

The Samsung 850 EVO model has shown significant firmware issues, with the controller freezing upon any command issued to read the sectors.

We contacted all the well-known research institutions and diagnostic equipment manufacturing companies in Russia, China, and Europe, but to no avail.

Samsung SSD recovery for the specific Samsung 850 EVO model was, until recently, impossible.

For previous Samsung models, such as the 840, a special procedure has been identified that allows diagnostic machines to resolve the issue in the Firmware and controller.

However, in this model, this is not yet possible. Because we had received several incidents of customers losing critical files, it was a priority to understand and provide at least experimental solutions to the problem.

It should be noted that the manufacturers of the diagnostic equipment have explicitly stated their inability to read the data from this specific problem to date.

In other words, any read command sent to the drive results in it entering a faulty read loop (BUSY Mode).

Data recovery from SSDs is one of the fields in which TicTac’s research department is active and has achieved many successes.

The solution for Samsung SSD recovery

The results are particularly encouraging as our research team built a device that can connect to this specific model and read data, albeit very slowly.

This way, we can read sectors and provide our customers with functional files even after a long period.

We thank our customers for their understanding of the problem, as there were cases in our laboratory that had been patiently waiting for over 10 months until we brought the results.

We have already received cases from abroad, and our research continues to improve the existing solution.

The Problem:

We received many cases of Samsung 850 EVO drives that have BUSY problem. This means that the drive becomes ready (DRD DSC) and once a read command is performed on the diagnostic tool or the operating system, the drive goes BSY and stucks in a loop.

The solution:

We managed to construct an additional hardware/software solution that overcomes the problem of Busy and allowes us to get access to the Data Area of the drive. Our solution is not perfect but works for small amounts of Data. Until now we have managed to read about 1GB per week from drives that suffer from this specific firmware problem of Samsung 850 EVO.
