In general, CDs and DVDs are among the best storage methods due to their long lifespan and portability. Especially good CD/DVD brands guarantee a 10-year lifespan for the files we store. However, some problems make some CDs and DVDs useless.
Scratched CD/DVD
A very common problem with optical storage media is scratches. CDs/DVDs consist of an inner surface where data is stored, but also have several protective surfaces that prevent external damage from reaching the inside of the DVD/CD. Daily use of an optical disc causes scratches on its outer surfaces, which are more or less expected.
Some brands of CDs/DVDs are more susceptible to scratches than others. When enough scratches accumulate, the disc becomes more challenging or gradually stops being read by any CD/DVD Reader.
After much research, TicTac has found ways to recover data from a scratched CD or DVD.
Using several chemicals and special components, we can reconstruct the surface of the DVD / CD so that it can be reread, and we can retrieve your files.
Recover data from a DVD camera that has not been closed or finalized
It’s a relatively common issue for digital camcorders to not properly finalize the DVD you were burning, causing you to lose valuable footage.
This happens quite often to our photographer clients, who, as soon as they finish shooting, the digital camera fails to finalize. As a result, the camcorders or computers no longer recognize DVDs.
At TicTac, we provide the solution with a special machine that reads the DVD’s RAW data, creating a virtual finalization signature. It can also read (very slowly but with good results) the files from the “open” DVD.
This makes it possible to recover data from DVDs, and our clients can receive their files on a new DVD in MPG/AVI format.

I lost my files. What should I do?
When it comes to data recovery, the know-how and methods used by each technician or company make all the difference.
Many people with damaged storage devices try to fix the problem themselves or ask someone without the right experience. Unfortunately, this often causes even more damage and lowers the chances of successful recovery.
That’s why it’s so important to choose carefully who works on your device—especially when valuable files are at risk.
